An artistic collaboration with Shanghai-based choreographer Xiao Ke.

SHANGHAI ANGEL is a composition of dance and film in front of a subway audience. Xiao Ke’s performance for this film is a harmonious dance with the camera, which at times moves with her and at times takes on her point of view. Bathed in the cold blue lights of confined utilitarian public space, Xiao Ke’s elegant choreography, dancing with Schmerberg’s camera eye, erects a cinematic monument to the beauty of a moment stolen from time, salvaged from the transience of public transportation gracefully looping forever to a haunting score by Malakoff Kowalski, titled Chez Suzy – Sans Toi.
